Do I need a permit for an above ground pool?
All cities and municipalities have different rules concerning pool permits. It is important to check with your local planning and zoning department. In most cases, a permit is required for installing an above ground pool. A permit is mandated for any pool that is capable of containing water more than 24 inches deep at any point. This includes in-ground, above-ground and on-ground pools; indoor pools; hot tubs; spas; and fixed-in-place wading pools. All pools that use pumps, filters, heaters, lights, or any other electrical devices, regardless of water depth, require an electrical permit.
